What is checked, against which source, and when

Every itinerary is compiled remotely, from public sources. This page says what was checked online, against which source and on what date, what was not, and every correction made since the itineraries went on sale.

Only a finding established on an official source leads to a correction. Without an official source, nothing is changed.

What is not checked

  • Nothing is tested on site: I have not visited any of the countries I sell, and nobody has slept in these hotels or used these tickets.
  • Room availability and prices, which change every day.
  • Opening hours, closing days and admission prices at the time of your trip: check them when you book.
  • Short journeys, Google Maps links and photos.
  • Itineraries that share hotels with a checked itinerary: fixes are carried over where the text is identical, but they are not checked themselves.
  • The “Updated on” date of a product page: it is the date of its last edit, not of a check.

A full check covers every hotel, every booking link and every ticket to book in an itinerary. Its date and count are also shown on the product page.

The other 72 itineraries on sale have not had this full check yet.

Corrections log

Every correction made to an itinerary on sale, with its date. It only appears here once it is live: on the product page, or in the itinerary in your customer account, which replaces the old one.

  1. Hokkaido in 14 days

    Travel times, opening hours and prices added to all 14 days: 72 travel times measured on Google Maps, 55 lines of opening hours and admission taken from official websites, and the date of the check at the bottom of each day. This check led to 53 fixes: 10 driving times written in the text that contradicted the measured route, 2 “to be confirmed” notes replaced by the published hours, 32 facts put right (for example 52 buildings, not 54, at the historical village, the beer museum visit being paid, the Shiretoko pass closed from early November), 5 map links that led to the wrong place, and the length of the route, corrected in 4 places: about 2,150 km, not 1,900.

  2. Hokkaido in 14 days

    Full online check: 9 hotels, 13 booking links, 5 tickets to book. 33 fixes: 13 on hotels (2 wrong addresses, 3 outdated links, 8 inaccurate descriptions), 13 on visits and tickets (times, rules, prices, descriptions, links), 5 on practical information (driving licence, lodging tax, car drop-off, airport transfer) and 2 official links that were too general. They were carried over to Hokkaidō in 18 days and to the Japan 88 days itinerary wherever the text was identical.

  3. Japan 88 days and Japan 86 days

    The season window shown on the product page only applied to one stage, Hokkaidō for one and Kyoto for the other, but read as if it covered the whole trip. It is now tied to its stage.

  4. New England and the Great Lakes in 17 days, Eastern United States in 88 days

    The Hilton Fallsview in Niagara was listed at 6700 Fallsview Boulevard, with a phone number that was not its own. Address (6361 Fallsview Boulevard) and phone number corrected.

  5. Titicaca and the road to Cusco in 7 days, complete Peru in 82 days

    The Titicaca Home is not on the lake shore: it stands on a floating Uros island, thirty minutes by boat from Puno. Its address now says so.

  6. New Mexico and Texas in 8 days, American West in 89 days

    3 booking links replaced with a bookable page or the official website (Pine Springs, Whites City, Pueblo Bonito). The Holbrook hotel now carries its current name, Lexington Inn, and the link to its former brand is removed.

  7. Lima and the south coast, Arequipa and the canyons, Titicaca and the road to Cusco

    These three Peru stages were missing sections of the complete itinerary: tickets and bookings in all three, stage transport in the first. They have been added, taken from the complete itinerary.

  8. South Korea, maps of the 10 itineraries

    Of the 68 map points placed automatically, 19 were in the wrong place. All were corrected by hand before the maps went online. The 13 points of the Seoul module had been placed by hand.

Report an error

A closed hotel, a dead link, a changed opening time: write to me with the itinerary and the day. Once the error is confirmed on an official source, the itinerary is corrected and the correction is added to this log.
