Day 2
The descent of Wadi Dana to Feynan
Morning
Wadi Dana Trail
Jordan's most famous hike: 14 kilometres and 1,200 metres of descent from the village to the floor of Wadi Araba, through four vegetation zones, from the junipers of the plateau to the acacias of the desert. The trail follows the Bedouin shepherds' path, with a good chance of meeting ibex and vultures.
Afternoon
Mountain biking in Wadi Araba
From the lodge, a bike ride on the tracks of the Araba valley, among acacias and sandy riverbeds, around the ancient Feynan copper mines worked since the Neolithic and considered the oldest mining complex in the Near East.
Evening
Stargazing from the Feynan Ecolodge
The lodge has no electricity in the evening: the corridors are lit by candles and the roof terrace becomes an observatory. An astronomy session led by the Bedouin team, under one of the least polluted skies in the region.
Good to know
The descent of Wadi Dana drops 1,200 m to Feynan: early start, 6 to 8 hours of walking, three litres of water per person. Luggage is transported separately and Feynan is lit by candles, so a head torch is useful in the evening. At the lodge, it is best to have cash: the card terminal does not always manage to connect. A conservation fee of 4 JD per adult, per stay, is added to the bill.
