Seomun Market

One of the largest traditional markets in Korea, known for textiles and, in the evening, for a night market sought out for its street food.

Yangnyeongsi and History Alley

Since the 17th century, the Yangnyeongsi alley has been the great market of oriental medicine, scented with plants and roots; a museum is devoted to it. The "Modern History Alley" walk links churches, lanes and houses that tell the story of early-20th-century Daegu.

Weather and when to go

  • Four distinct seasons. Spring and autumn are the two ideal windows on this stage.
  • Daegu is known for its very hot summers: stay hydrated and favour morning visits in season.
  • The caves keep a constant temperature all year round: pack a light jumper and good shoes.

Transport and permits

  • A car is strongly recommended: caves, academies and temples sit well away from the bus lines.
  • Daegu is connected to the KTX network.
  • Google Maps is restricted in Korea: install Naver Map or KakaoMap, and Papago for translation.

Formalities and safety

  • Passport valid beyond the length of the stay. Short tourist stays visa-free for up to 90 days for many nationalities.
  • K-ETA electronic authorisation required in principle, but several countries, France among them, benefit from a temporary exemption that keeps being extended: check your status on k-eta.go.kr before departure.
  • At the hot springs, follow the Korean jjimjilbang etiquette: shower first, swimsuit depending on the pools.
  • No compulsory vaccine; up-to-date routine vaccinations recommended (DTP, hepatitis A and B). Tap water is drinkable.
  • One of the safest countries in the world. Type C/F power sockets, 220 V.

Budget and meals

  • Currency: South Korean won (KRW). Bank cards accepted almost everywhere; a little cash remains useful at the markets.
  • Street food: €3 to €8. Simple restaurant: €8 to €15.
  • A stage very rich in UNESCO sites, each with its own ticket: allow some time and a small entrance-fee budget.

Email contact@etaperia.com within 12 months of your purchase. If a hotel in the itinerary is closed or can no longer be found, or a place to visit has closed permanently, the itinerary is corrected in your customer account within 7 days, or you are refunded in full. A hotel fully booked on your dates, a seasonal closure or a change in opening hours or prices is not covered.
